• Past students of ARB101 and/or TJW102 can take TJW201 based on their teacher’s recommendation. Other students can take the recitation test that will be sent to them upon registration to ensure that this course is the right level for them.
• You are required to have a copy of the standard King Fahd Saudi mushaf.
• You are required to have a working headset microphone.
• Estimated Commitment Per Week: 2-3 hours for core requirements

Reading the Qur’an without faults is an extremely important part of honoring the Book of Allah. In this 3-part series of courses, you will not only learn why and how to do this, but also gain an ijaza or teaching certificate that will enable you to pass your knowledge of this beautiful science to others.

This series of courses will provide you mastery in Hafs, the most popular of the ways of tajweed. By the end of the first course in the series, you will know the background of Hafs; be able to read the Quran without clear faults; know when and how to recite the basmalla and isti’adha; and be motivated to keep improving your recitation on a regular basis.

Part 1 will begin with an introduction to tajweed, including the merits of learning how to recite the Quran, the different degrees of reading, and a quick look at the lives of ‘Asim and Hafs. Subsequent lessons will cover the rulings of tajweed, including making letters hard and soft, the ways of reciting the isti’adha and basmalla, the rulings of the nun, meen, and tanween, lengthening of letters, and more.

The course will consist of a mix between pre-recorded lessons and weekly live tutorials, which will be focused on practicing reading examples from the Quran. The final assignment will tie all the content together with an examination of both the theoretical concepts covered and the level of your actual recitation.

• Pre-recorded lessons will be taught by Shaykh Sulayman Van Ael.
• Weekly live lessons will be taught by Ustadha Rehan Rashid.
• Printable course slides will add structure to lessons.
• Assignments and exams will test your knowledge.
• Students are recommended to listen to the recitation of the Fatiha and Juz ‘Amma by Imam al-Hosari.
• Each section of this course is limited to only 10 students, ensuring a hands-on learning experience.
• All live sessions will be recorded, so that you can hear lessons that you may miss or review key concepts.
• You can post questions and engage in discussion in the course forum. The forum will be focused on practical exercises.
• Ustadha Rehan will hold weekly office hours.
