As the Prophet Muhammed, peace and blessings be upon him, first entered Medina at the time of the hijra (migration), the children came into the streets joyfully singing “the white moon rose over us from the valley of Wada,” referring to the coming of the Last Prophet into their midst. As Shaykh Abdul Hakim Murad explains, this song was an expression of the love these children had for the Prophet, peace be upon him. “This love was expressed from the moment the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Madinah, when girls from a local tribe beat their tambourines, and sang, rejoicing, invoking him, comparing him to the full moon, the purest and most beautiful thing known to the Arabs.”
Indeed, many traditions describing the Prophet and numerous poetry, such as Imam Busiri’s Burda, referred to his countenance as the ‘full moon’. Full Moon Rising: The Light and Life of the Last Prophet is dedicated to bringing the light of this radiant moon into our lives and illuminating within our hearts the glow of this glorious love.
