Getting Started on Your Course

Download and print the course syllabus.  These will serve as your 'guide' to the course.

Read the introductory materials on the course webpage.  These will provide an introduction to the course guidelines.

Introduce yourself on the “Meet Your Classmates Forum.”  Take some time to let others get to know you.  Why did you take this course?  What do you hope to get out of it?  What are your interests?  What’s your background?  The aim here is to create a classroom environment where ideas are shared frequently and courteously.

Get started on your course!  You are now ready to begin your studies.  If your course is a pre-recorded course, open an audio lesson, print out the accompanying slides if you wish, take your own notes in the journal provided or in your own notebook, check your understanding by completing a self-study drill, and post questions or comments on the discussion forum.  If you are enrolled in a live lesson only course, check the Discussion Forum for information on preliminary assignments. And if you have any questions on getting started, post your question on the Discussion Forum or email your Teaching Assistant. You can find contact information for your Instructor and Teaching Assistant from the "Contact Information for Assistance" link towards the top of your course page.

Make room on your calendar for the weekly live sessions. On the right side of the course page is a calendar with upcoming events and overall deadlines.  This calendar will remind you of upcoming live sessions, as well as provide you with suggested course pace deadlines.  Given that live sessions are critical for enhancing your understanding of the course material, make preparations now to ensure that you are free when live sessions are scheduled.
